Nepal Research And Education Network


Nepal Research and Education Network (NREN) is a non-profit organization registered under Nepal Government and affiliated with Social Welfare Council. This is a consortium in the country active to build national research and education network. It facilitates dedicated advanced research and education network for the research and education communities of Nepal.

NREN was constituted by the professionals working on the theme of ICT for Development. Lack of research environment and the network in terms of resources, infrastructure and access was the key motive towards the establishment of this institution. It aims to strive towards the mitigation of research backwardness via the connection with global research and education communities.

NREN is a primary member of Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) - the umbrella research and education network in the Asia Pacific region; a international partners organization of Internet2 and the country representatives for the Third Generation Trans Eurasia Information Network (TEIN3).

NREN is the designated network in Nepal connected to the third generation of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN3). The objective of this network is to bring high speed network connectivity from Europe to R&E network in the Asian region. All network members and partners of NREN get direct access to the networks likes GÉANT, TEIN, APAN etc. and institution like CERN and NASA.
